It’s very fascinating, how Singapore does things. We live on an island that used to be covered in tropical/secondary rainforest, which has been razed to the ground to build the air- conditioned, sanitary urban environment we are so comfortable in. After all, the not-too-long-ago Battle of Pasir Panjang we know so fondly from PSLE days was fought on vegetated high ground, nowadays known as the NUS campus. Singapore then goes and reclaims land from the sea to construct its own shiny, artificial Gardens, complete with environmentally sustainable solar panels to meet the Gardens’ electricity needs. Gardens by the Bay is an iconic, ironic (pun) allegory of Singapore’s mode of progress.

Food for thought.

+It’s been a long time since I’ve read such well-written and thought-provoking prose!
